“Matey Mike” McHugh is a solo acoustic guitarist located in San Antonio, Texas. His blend of classic pop, country, folk, and Americana songs lend a beach party atmosphere to his performances.
His witty, original tunes offer a light-hearted spin on the peculiarities of everyday life.

I’m not a gambling man myself. I might buy a lottery ticket when the Powerball jackpot gets up to a gazillion dollars. Still, someone challenged me to write a song about gambling addiction, so here it is.

Solo Acoustic
Mike delivers energetic solo performances chock full of good time songs. His sets create the perfect party atmosphere in any room.
The Beach Nuts
Mike shares lead vocals and rhythm acoustic guitar with this Jimmy Buffett tribute band of Hill Country Retreat residents.
The Beach Nuts are currently on pause as a few members pursue other musical projects.
Pigs On The Wing
A Pink Floyd tribute band performing at occasional Music Showcase events at Hill Country Retreat.
Six String Serenade
Mike shares the stage with two acoustic guitarists and a stellar female vocalist. Together they perform a mix of originals and popular covers, with a few niche folk tunes thrown in.
Vintage Vibes
Mike performs rhythm guitar and occasional lead vocals with this band of Hill Country Retreat residents. Vintage Vibes’ repertoire is wide-ranging, drawing from classic pop and rock, country, Latin, and show tunes from the fifties to the current day.
Venues
Mike appears at venues throughout the Greater San Antonio area.
He is a frequent performer in his Hill Country Retreat community and at open mic nights at Helotes VFW Post 7160.
Hill Country Retreat
Mike performs frequently, both solo and with the Beach Nuts and Vintage Vibes, at this 55-plus Del Webb community located in the Alamo Ranch area of San Antonio.
Attendance at these performances is generally limited to Hill Country Retreat residents and their guests.
Helotes VFW
Mike is a regular at the Tuesday night open mics at the Helotes VFW. located on FM 1560. He typically does an extended set, sometimes with backing instruments. Music kicks off at 7 PM.
The VFW canteen is open to the public. It offers attractive beverage prices and a friendly, vibrant atmosphere.
Out & About
